Kabul, April 26: An Afghan official has confirmed that Taliban insurgents ambushed a government convoy in the eastern province of Logar and killed the deputy governor and his two bodyguards.
The Logar provincial council chief, Mohammad Naser Ghyrat informed that the ambush on the convoy of Kamaruddin Shekeib, that took place on early Thursday also injured Shekeib’s spokesman.
The eastern Logar is controlled mainly by the Taliban despite the presence of the National Security Force along the road running through the province. The area has often come under attack from the Taliban.
Taliban, which is known for owning attacks after executing them did not issue a statement on the killing initially but according to a New York Times report, the spokesman for the Taliban, one Zabihullah Mujahid has claimed responsibility for the attack on Ambush.
