Amritsar, December 9: A total of 139 Indian pilgrims on Sunday left for Pakistan to visit Shree Katas Raj Temple in Chakwal district there. According to a tweet by ANI, the pilgrims have been issued visas by Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi. The pilgrims can visit the temples from 9-15 December 2018. Going by history, the temples play an important role in the Hindu epic poem, the Mahabharata. These temples are traditionally believed to have been the site where the Pandava brothers spent a significant portion of their exile. Sidhu crossed the Wagah Attari border to Pakistan to attend the stone laying ceremony of the corridor.

The Katas Raj Temples in Pakistan is one of the famous temples in the world. The temples form a complex surrounding a pond named 'Katas' which is regarded as sacred in Hindu mythology. The temple spreads its beauty near Chakwal in Punjab province of Pakistan. The temple complex is located in the Potohar Plateau region of Pakistan's Punjab province. Reports inform that the ‘Katas’, site houses the Satgraha or seven temples is a gathering of seven old temples, remains of a Buddhist stupa, a couple of medieval sanctuaries, havelis among other things.

Going by the history of the temples, the temples' pond is said in the Puranas to have been created from the teardrops of Shiva, after he wandered the Earth inconsolable after the death of his wife Sati. The pond occupies an area of two kanals and 15 marlas, with a maximum depth of 20 feet.
