13-Year-Old Found Driving Stolen Car in New Zealand, With 8 More Kids 'Crammed' in the Vehicle
The parents of the kids didn't even realise that their kids were not in the house and were on a 'wild' ride out there on the road. It's only when the police brought them home that the parents found that they were in the car.
A 13-year-old girl was found driving the car with 8 other kids 'crammed' in it in New Zealand. The car was reported as stolen by a family member of one of the kids in New Zealand. Acting Sergeant Nathan Dickey said police received a complaint from a family member that the car had been stolen from her (complainant) home address. She also claimed that three of her family members and one of their friends were responsible. The complaint claimed that car was taken from a Paraparaumu Beach address. Later, when the car was spotted and checked by police, they found young 8 other kids in the vehicle. The kids found in the car belonged to seven different families. The parents of the kids didn't even realise that their kids were not in the house and were on a 'wild' ride out there on the road.
One hour later, a small Suzuki Swift, was found travelling south on Manly St, Paraparaumu in New Zealand. "Police turned around to stop the vehicle, however the driver increased its speed and turned down a side street," Dickey said."The vehicle then pulled over to the side of the road. Police were aware of four of the occupants' ages and there was never any pursuit engaged," he was quoted by the NZ Herald. This is when it was discovered that there were around 10 kids inside the car sitting at awkward places.
Sergeant Dickey said that the police expressed their disappointment with the action of the kids and made them understand the "dangers of being in a vehicle unrestrained, and more so with the positions they were found in," Dickey said. "It was extremely fortunate on this occasion that everyone was returned home safely, the last thing as a police officer we want to be doing is knocking on the parents' door advising them their child won't be coming home tonight.
"This is a good reminder to everyone to obey the road rules and alway wear your seat belt." Dickey added that the parents only realised that the kids were not home, after police brought them home. The car has also been found with small damages and the police is trying to find the reasons for it.
