The Taliban got control of Afghanistan on August 16 after President Ashraf Ghani fled the country. He conceded the terrorists had won the 20-year war. The collapse of the government and the subsequent takeover of the Presidential Palace by the Taliban, led to fear and panic in Kabul. Thousands of people have been trying To Escape Kabul. A video clip shared on social media showed hundreds of Afghans jostling to climb in a flight to fly out of the country. The world reaction was swift as the Taliban took over Afghanistan. “One more year, or five more years, of US military presence would not have made a difference if the Afghan military cannot or will not hold its own country,” US President Joe Biden said in a statement. United Nations chief, Antonio Guterres urged the Taliban to “exercise utmost restraint” in Afghanistan. Heiko Maas, Foreign Minister said Germany will fly its embassy staff out of Kabul. Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada said that the “rapidly evolving situation” in Afghanistan poses challenges for Canada’s diplomatic mission in the country.
