Women’s Equality Day 2019: History & Significance Of The Day Celebrating Women’s Empowerment

Women's Equality Day is observed on August 26 every year to commemorate the right of women to vote in US. It is an annual event in the United States. Before the Civil War in the United States, the movement for women's suffrage was started. On August 26, 1920, 19th Amendment was passed to the United States Constitution which granted women the right to vote. first time the Women's Equality Day was celebrated in 1971 after the congress passed a resolution to mark this event annually. On this day, National Organisation for Women (NOW) called women to demonstrate for equal rights for women and nationwide 'strike for equality'. Seminars, workshops to address the issues and problems faced by women in the country are organised on this day.
