Union Govt Moves Election Laws (Amendment) Bill In Lok Sabha, Opposition Registers Strong Protest

On December 20, changes to the electoral laws to permit linking of the Aadhaar card to the voter I-card were passed in the Lok Sabha. Massive opposition protests were witnessed against the "Election Laws (Amendment) Bill". Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said, "Aadhaar was meant to be proof of residence, not proof of citizenship.” BJP led central government called the opposition's objections baseless.
