Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray has warned the public of another lockdown if COVID-19 related norms are not followed. He has also directed the local administration to crackdown on people & establishments for not following COVID-19 related norms & standard operating procedures (SOPs). Thackeray has also directed the administration to not give permissions to public rallies, protests & processions where COVID-19 norms of masking and social distancing are not being followed. He also directed administrations to keep a close watch & conduct surprise checks on places like restaurants, wedding halls to ensure following of norms. Meanwhile, as Mumbai records a surge in cases, a lockdown is a possibility, said Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar. Mumbai on February 15 reported 493 cases while the total caseload reached 3,14,569. The total number of deaths is at 11,420. On February 14, the number of new cases was 645, the highest in the last five days. On Sunday, Maharashtra reported 4,092 cases, the highest single-day COVID-19 tally in more than a month. Though the numbers dipped again on Monday, the tally remained above 3,000 for the sixth straight day.
