Truckers' End Protest: Truck Drivers' Call Off Strike After Government Assurance On New Hit-And-Run Law
Indian truckers have called off the nationwide strike! This comes after the government put on hold provisions of the new law. After discussions with the government, the All-India Motor Transport Congress called off the protest. Indian truckers were protesting over Section 106(2) of Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita. The law is set to replace the Indian Penal Code. The truckers' protest was witnessed in many Indian states including Bihar, Maharashtra, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Under the new law, hit-and-run accident cases can attract up to 10 years in prison and a penalty of Rs 7 lakh. Watch the video to know more.
