TikTok Responds To India Ban, Says Invited To Submit Clarifications; China Says Move Discriminatory

TikTok has responded to government of India’s ban in the country. TikTok India said it had been invited by the government to offer clarifications after it was blocked along with 58 Chinese mobile apps over national security & privacy concerns. The popular video sharing app said it was in the process of complying with the government order and "continued to comply with data privacy and security requirements under Indian law.” TikTok India said it had not shared any information of users in India with "any foreign government, including the Chinese government.” TikTok also added "if we are requested to in the future we would not do so," asserting that it placed highest importance on user privacy and integrity. TikTok, UC Browser & WeChat are among the 59 Chinese apps blocked by the centre for "engaging in activities prejudicial to the sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order.” India is the biggest driver of the TikTok app and the ban is expected to badly hit its parent company Bytedance. India Is said to be TikTok's biggest international market with about 120 million users. China on June 30 said it was "seriously concerned" about the Indian government blocking 59 Chinese apps and firmly opposed such action. India's move was "discriminatory" and "runs against fair and transparent practices," the Chinese embassy said in a statement.
