Surekha Sikri, National Award-Winning Actor Dies Of Cardiac Arrest At 75

National Award-winning actor Surekha Sikri died on July 16 morning due to cardiac arrest. The 75-year-old actor was reportedly battling complications induced by a second brain stroke. Surekha Sikri had suffered a brain stroke in 2019, which she revealed in an interview in September, saying she was waiting to fully recover before returning to work. “Known for her graceful and versatile performances, she will be missed deeply,” wrote Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee. Delhi’s Deputy CM Manish Sisodia shared several pictures of Surekha Sikri in his post and said, “Few actors are as versatile and accomplished as Surekha Sikri ji. She was an institution.” Arvind Kejriwal retweeted Manish Sisodia’s post and said, “Heartfelt condolences on the demise of veteran actress Surekha Sikri ji. May God bless her soul.” In 2019, Surekha Sikri was honoured with the Best Supporting Actress National Award for Badhaai Ho, marking her third National Award win. In 1988, she won a National Award for Tamas and then in 1995 for Mammo. Surekha Sikri was best known for her portrayal of the strict ‘daadi’ in the TV show Balika Vadhu.
