Supreme Court Strikes Down Electoral Bonds Scheme As ‘Unconstitutional’ Ahead Of Lok Sabha Polls

On February 15, a five-judge bench of the Supreme Court struck down the Electoral Bonds scheme as unconstitutional. The bench comprising Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justices Sanjiv Khanna, BR Gavai, JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra delivered a unanimous verdict, reported ANI. The CJI while reading out his judgement said that the Supreme Court holds that anonymous electoral bonds are violative of Right to Information and Article 19(1)(a). CJI DY Chandrachud ordered banks to forthwith stop issuing Electoral Bonds. The apex Court asked State Bank of India to provide details of donations made through this mode to the Election Commission of India. Watch the video to know more.
