Supreme Court Order On Firecrackers: ‘Cannot Have Complete Ban’, Sets Aside Calcutta HC’s Blanket Ban Order In West Bengal

On November 1, the Supreme Court said that green crackers can be used during the festive season in West Bengal. The top court of the country set aside an order on total ban on crackers by the c. “There cannot be a complete ban of firecrackers. Strengthen the mechanism to stop misuse,” said SC. The bench comprising Justices AM Khanwilkar and Ajay Rastogi gave the order. This comes just days ahead of Kali Puja, Diwali. Calcutta High Court order had come over a Public Interest Litigation. The PIL was filed by environmental activist Roshni Ali who sought a ban on the sale and use of firecrackers during the upcoming festivities. The High Court had mentioned that only wax or oil-based diyas may be used for the festivities. Watch the video to know more.
