Raksha Bandhan is an annual Hindu festival which celebrates the special relationship shared by siblings. Raksha Bandhan literally means ‘safety’ and ‘bond’. This festival celebrates the brother-sister relationship. On this day, families get together, and sisters tie the sacred thread around their brothers wrist at an auspicious time. The best time to tie Rakhi is Aparahna. This festival has its roots in a famous incident described in the Mahabharata. Once Lord Krishna was flying a kite and cut one of his fingers with the thread. Draupadi then tore a piece of cloth from her saree and tied it on Krishna's finger to prevent the bleeding. Moved by Draupadi’s gesture, Krishna promised he will protect her from all evils throughout his life. Families get together to celebrate this special day. Special delicacies are prepared on this day. When sisters tie rakhi, brothers shower them with blessings and gifts. Watch the video to know about the puja Muhurat and rituals to be followed on this day.
