Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and many other opposition leaders gathered outside Parliament on August 12 morning. They protested against the abrupt end to the monsoon session of the Lok Sabha & Rajya Sabha. They also protested against alleged assault on women MPs in the Upper House on August 11. Gandhi Said, “First time in the history of our country, members of the Rajya Sabha were heckled and manhandled.”
Rajya Sabha on August 11 passed three bills amid protests by the Opposition leaders. The House was then adjourned sine die. The General Insurance Business (Nationalisation) Bill, 2021, was also passed. Rajya Sabha later took up the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (Amendment) Bill, 2021 & the National Commission for Homoeopathy (Amendment) Bill, 2021. As the General Insurance Business (Nationalisation) Bill, 2021 was brought to the table for discussion, the Opposition protested, asking “that the Chair must take the sense of the House”. Derek O’Brien tweeted, “There are more security guards than MPs in the House as the Govt tries to BULLDOZE Insurance Bill.” Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said, “What happened this evening was worse than atrocious!” Binoy Viswam of CPI said, “A black day for parliament.” Chhaya Varma of Congress alleged that male marshals pushed women MPs. Pralhad Joshi, Parliamentary Affairs Minister said, “If we are doing a mistake, let them go to the people.” Opposition members walked out during Pralhad Joshi’s reply. Watch the video to know more.
