Punjab Cop's Hand Chopped, Two Injured In Attack By Nihangs Amid Lockdown; Know About This Sikh Sect

A police officer’s hand was chopped off when a group of people attacked them at a vegetable market in Punjab’s Patiala district on April 12. Two other officials were also injured in the attack by Nihangs, a religious sect. Reportedly, the officials were attacked when they were trying to ensure that the lockdown was in place. The lockdown in Punjab has been extended till May 1. Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police Harjeet Singh whose hand was chopped-off went through a surgery that lasted nearly eight hours. Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh tweeted thanking the doctors and informing that the surgery to ‘repair the severed wrist of ASI Harjeet Singh’ was successful. Reportedly, Nihangs came into being as ‘Laadli Fauj’ of the Guru. The incident can be attributed to the fact that that Nihangs do not wish to follow orders from the administration as they feel it is an attack on their sovereignty. Reportedly, the community believes in following orders only by their Guru.
