Muslim bodies & leaders urge members of the community to stay at home during the holy month of Ramzan. It will commence for April 24 or April 25 depending on the sighting of the moon. The Islamic Centre of India, Lucknow requested Muslims to offer Ramadan prayers (Tarawih) from home. They reached people of Lucknow through a vehicle and announced that Muslims should stay at their homes for prayers, sehri (meal eaten before sunrise) and iftaar (breaking of fast). They urged people to follow the guidelines issued by the government to curb the spread of the deadly virus. The Rajasthan Waqf Board which governs around 5678 mosques and 1010 Sufi shrines in the state directed them not to allow any special prayers during Ramzan. Saudi Arabia’s grand mufti, the highest religious authority in the kingdom said prayers during Ramzan should be performed at home, as per a Saudi newspaper. Prophet Muhammad’s mosque in Medina has also reportedly banned event which dispense evening meals to those in need during Ramzan to break their fast.
