Pfizer Covid-19 Vaccine Receives Full Approval From US FDA

Covid-19 vaccine developed by American pharmaceutical firm Pfizer in partnership with Germany's BioNTech SE has been granted full approval in the United States. The US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) made the announcement on August 23. This full approval of Pfizer's vaccine means that the shot can now be branded under the brand name of "Comirnaty”. Albert Bourla, Chairman & CEO, Pfizer Inc. said, “Vaccination remains one of the best tools we have to help protect lives and work to achieve herd immunity.” Pfizer's Covid-19 vaccine also becomes the first shot to receive such an approval in the United States. The vaccine will continue to be available under Emergency Use Authorisation (EUA) for children in the 12-15 age group. However, it may now be prescribed by doctors for children aged below 12 if they think it will be beneficial. The vaccine was granted EUA by the FDA on December 11 last year.
