Odisha Train Accident: 238 Dead, Over 650 Injured In Three-Train Collision In Balasore; Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Visits Site

At least 238 people died and more than 650 were left injured when three trains collided in Odisha on June 2. The horrific three-train collision is said to be India’s deadliest rail accident in over 20 years. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw reached the accident site and said a high-level committee will be set up to probe the matter. The collision involved Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, the Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express, and a goods train. Rescue operations are underway. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has declared one-day state mourning. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw took stock of the situation on June 3 morning. The Railway Minister has announced compensation of Rs 10 lakh for those who have died. Rs 2 lakh will be paid to those who are seriously injured & Rs 50,000 for those who sustained minor injuries.
