Nusrat Jahan, Trinamool Congress MP Claims She Was Not Legally Married Under Indian Law To Nikhil Jain

Bengali film star and Trinamool Party MP Nusrat Jahan has released a statement on June 9 on her marital status and the consequent developments of her separation from Nikhil Jain. Jahan said that she is not required to file for divorce proceedings with Jain as the couple’s marriage ‘was never valid under Indian law’.

The actor-turned MP said that the duo had an interfaith wedding which was conducted in Turkey. The wedding was solemnised as per Turkish Marriage Regulation, and hence it was invalid under the Special Marriage Act in India. Jahan had a high-profile wedding with businessman Nikhil Jain in Bodrum, Turkey in 2019.

Nusrat Jahan’s split with Nikhil Jain seems an acrimonious one as she also hinted in the statement, that the “one who claims to be rich” has been taking money from her bank account. She has also alleged that Jain has held on to her assets and jewellery illegally. Jahan is a Member of Parliament from Basirhat, West Bengal and is among the 17 women who were fielded by Mamata Banerjee's party in the Lok Sabha Polls.
