The 2021 Nobel Prize in Chemistry has been awarded to German Benjamin List and Scottish-born David MacMillan. They won the prestigious award for their development of asymmetric organocatalysis, a “new and ingenious tool for molecule building.” David MacMillan was born in 1968 in Bellshill, UK. He is a professor at Princeton University, USA. Benjamin List was born in 1968 in Frankfurt, Germany. He is the director of the Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung, Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany. The prize is more than a century old. It is worth 10 million Swedish crowns ($1.14 million).
