Newly Built Islamabad International Airport’s Ceiling Collapses Due To Heavy Rains

Islamabad’s newly constructed international airport has shocked many as portions of the airport’s departure lounge collapsed due to rainfall. On August 14, the faulty construction of the newly built Islamabad International Airport (IIAP) sustained damage following a heavy thunderstorm, prompting the country’s aviation authorities to launch a probe. A video from inside the airport’s departure lounge showed parts of the ceiling crumbling and falling below during the heavy downpour. Aviation Division spokesman Senior Joint Secretary Abdul Sattar Khokhar said it was an extraordinary 56 mm rain which fell in a short span of time. No one was injured in the incident and there was also no disruption in the service, reports Dawn news. As the panels collapsed, the airport management closed the area and cordoned it off. Islamabad airport was built just two years ago and an inquiry into its faulty construction is currently underway after rainwater entered the airport on multiple occasions in the past.
