Nagaland: Sec 144 Imposed, SIT Formed To Probe Killing Of 13 Miners In Army Ops

On December 4, 13 people were killed in Nagaland. One soldier also lost his life in the shocking incident. Security officials opened fire at the people, possibly in a case of mistaken identity. One more villager died as a mob attacked the Assam Rifles camp. Under section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPc), public gathering of more than five people at a time has been banned in the Mon district. The police has named 21 Para Special Forces of Army in the murder case. A five-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the state police will probe the incident. The security forces said, “Based on the credible intelligence of likely movement of insurgents, a specific operation was planned to be conducted in the area of Tiru, Mon district, Nagaland.” Chief Minister of Nagaland Neiphiu Rio tweeted, “High level SIT will investigate & justice delivered as per the law of the land.” Nagaland Governor Jagdish Mukhi condemned the incident. Union Home Minister Amit Shah tweeted, “Anguished over an unfortunate incident in Nagaland’s Oting, Mon.” Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi tweeted, “This is heart wrenching.
