Nagaland Civilian Killings: NHRCIssues Notice To Union & State Govt, Two State Ministers Demand Removal Of AFSPA
On December 6, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) issued notices to the Centre and the Nagaland government over the killing of civilians. In an operation which went totally wrong, the army killed 14 civilians. NHRC seeks a detailed report on the matter within six weeks. Tokheho Yepthomi, Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) leader revealed the details of the incident during his address in the Lok Sabha. Meanwhile, chief ministers of Nagaland and Meghalaya have demanded repeal of the Armed Forces (Special Power) Act, 1958. Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio tweeted, “Nagaland and the Naga people have always opposed AFSPA.” Cobrad Sangma, Meghalaya Chief Minister tweeted, “AFSPA should be repealed.” AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi tweeted, “AFSPA is a symbol of oppression and an object of hate.” Watch the video to know more.
