Morarji Ranchhodji Desai, India's first non-Congress Prime Minister, was born on February 29, 1896, in Bhadeli village of the erstwhile state of Bombay. Besides serving as Prime Minister between 1977 and 1979, Desai held important constitutional posts such as Chief Minister of Bombay State, Home Minister, Finance Minister and Deputy Prime Minister of India.
