Mariupol Issued Surrender Or Die Option By Russia As Port City Holds Out
On April 17, Mariupol was issued a surrender or die option by Russia. However, Ukrainian forces resisted a Russian ultimatum to lay down arms, reported Reuters. Denys Shmyhal, Ukrainian Prime Minister, said troops in Mariupol were still fighting despite a Russian demand to surrender by dawn. Nearly four million Ukrainians have fled the country since the start of the invasion on February 24. Thousands of people have been killed and massive damage has been caused to the cities.
