Mamata Banerjee arrived at work on an electric scooter on February 25. The West Bengal Chief Minister, known for her modest "Santro" image, took things a notch up, or, perhaps, down, to drive home the point on spiralling fuel prices. In the run up to the state Assembly polls scheduled for April-May, the ride was an indication that the Trinamool Congress head isn't going to let go off any opportunity to attack the BJP. Banerjee's ride comes days after RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, on February 22, drove a tractor to reach the Bihar assembly. “Modi is selling the country. This government is anti-people, anti-women, anti-farmer & anti-young generation. We want this government to go," CM Mamata Banerjee said.
Fuel prices have increased considerably across the country over the past many weeks. In Kolkata, for instance, petrol costs Rs 91.12 and a cylinder of cooking gas comes at a reported Rs 820.50, rising three times this month alone.
