Maharashtra Prepares For Possible Covid-19 Surge, Large Gatherings Restricted Before Christmas; MP Imposes Night Curfew

Maharashtra has been reporting a rise in Covid-19 cases once again. The state government led by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray is set to issue detailed guidelines to reduce the crowd during Christmas and New Year celebrations. The rise in Covid-19 cases with the Omicron variant is also posing a threat to the state. On December 23 at 10 pm, CM Uddhav Thackeray held a meeting with the Covid-19 task force via video conferencing. Mumbai, the financial capital of India, reported 602 new cases of Covid-19. A total of 88 people with Omicron have been reported from Maharashtra.  Out of them, 42 were discharged after a negative RT-PCR test. Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh announced night curfew will be brought across the state from 11 pm to 5 am.
