Maharaja Ranjit Singh Statue Vandalised In Pakistan, India Condemns Act

Statue of Maharaja Ranjit Singh was vandalised in Lahore, Pakistan on August 17. India on August 17 expressed concern, saying incidents of violence against Pakistan’s minorities are increasing at an alarming rate. Reportedly, a member of the radical group, Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan, vandalised the statue. The statue is located within the Lahore Fort complex, a high-security area. The police later detained the person allegedly responsible for the act after he was held by locals in the area. The statue has been vandalised twice before since it was unveiled in 2019. Arindam Bagchi, External affairs ministry spokesperson said, “The Pakistani state has completely failed in its duty to prevent such attacks.” Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister for Housing & Urban Affairs & Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas tweeted, “Vandalism in Lahore of the statue of Maharaja Ranjit Singh Ji, the great unifier of India, has to be strongly condemned.” Watch the video to know more.
