Lockdown In West Bengal’s Containment Zones From July 9; Dharavi Reports Just One New Case On July 7

West Bengal government headed by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on July 7 announced complete lockdown in all the containment zones across the state from July 9. Containment & buffer zones will be clubbed together to constitute a "broad-based" containment zone where a strict lockdown will remain imposed from 5 pm on July 9. Decision has been taken following the spike in the number of coronavirus cases. West Bengal government has not mentioned how long the complete lockdown will stay for in the containment zones. West Bengal reported 850 new COVID-19 cases and 25 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases to 23,837 and death toll to 804 on July 7. On July 7, just one fresh case was reported from Dharavi. Weeks ago, Dharavi was considered the biggest threat to Mumbai as cramped living spaces & shared bathrooms meant there was little scope for social distancing. Maharashtra reported 5,134 cases on July 7 taking the total to 2,17,121. With 224 more patients dying of the infection, the death count has gone up to 9,250. Mumbai's COVID-19 tally on July 7 rose by 806 new cases to 86,132. Meanwhile, the World Health Organisation (WHO) on July 7 acknowledged "evidence emerging" of the airborne spread of the deadly coronavirus.
