LG Anil Baijal Overturns Kejriwal’s COVID-19 Orders, Delhi CM Says ‘Huge Challenge For Residents’
Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on June 8 issued two orders that struck down key announcements made by the Delhi government recently. LG Anil Baijal overturned Delhi government's order reserving beds for residents of Delhi saying treatment "should not be denied to any patient on grounds of being a non-resident.” He referred to the Supreme Court saying in various judgments that "Right to Health" is an integral part of "Right to Life" in the constitution. Baijal also said symptomatic cases and high-risk contacts of a virus patient will also be tested. Any deviation from the testing rules of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) "can result in further spread of COVID-19 in the capital,” Baijal said in his order. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, who is unwell and will take a COVID-19 test on June 9 said the Lieutenant Governor's decision would create a huge problem and challenge for the people of Delhi. Delhi’s Deputy CM Manish Sisodia called the move ad engineered by the BJP. The number of cases in Delhi has reached 28936 with 812 deaths.
