Kerala Lashed By Intense Rains, At Least 21 Dead In Floods, Landslides

At least 21 people have lost their lives due to flash floods and landslides in Kerala. Heavy rains lashed the southern state of the country. India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert in 11 districts in the state for October 18. Videos of the damage caused due to heavy showers have gone viral on social media. A house was swept away in Kottayam district of the state. The house can be seen tilting slowly, before the two-storey structure crashes into the muddy waters. The National Disaster Response Force has been helping in search and rescue operations. Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi tweeted, “My thoughts are with the people of Kerala.”
