Kerala Gets Its First Woman DGP, IPS R Sreelekha To Head State’s Fire & Rescue Services From June 1

Kerala gets its first woman Director General of Police. The state government on May 27 appointed R Sreelekha as Fire and Rescue Services DGP. Sreelekha belonging to the 1988 batch, is the first woman officer in the state to be elevated as a DGP. She will assume office on June 1. Currently, an Additional Director General of Police, she heads the Jail Department. At the weekly cabinet meeting on May 27, the Kerala government elevated her as DGP, as two DGP will be retiring from service on May 31. She became the first woman Superintendent of Police in 1991 and since then, has had a shining career. R Sreelekha is slated to retire from service in December 2020.
