The Kakatiya Rudreshwara (Ramappa) Temple in Telangana has been awarded the tag of a ‘World Heritage Site’ by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The announcement was made on July 25 by the UN agency. Reports say that Russia backed the site being awarded the World Heritage Site tag and 17 other countries backed it.
Rudreshwara Temple, also known as the Ramappa temple is renowned for its architecture and it is one of a select few temples in the world often referred to by the name of its sculptor. The holy site is frequented by tourists to see the carvings on the temple's walls, pillars and ceilings.
