Justice NV Ramana, Other Judges On Justice Rohinton Fali Nariman's Retirement

Justice Rohinton Fali Nariman, a renowned Supreme Court judge retired on August 12. He has delivered many landmark judgments. Chief Justice Of India NV Ramana described Justice Rohinton Fali Nariman as a "lion of a judge". On his last working day as the Supreme Court judge, Justice Nariman sat with the Chief Justice in court no 1 of the top court, a tradition for retiring judges. Justice Rohinton Fali Nariman described seven years of being a judge "grueling" as he had to read much more. Justice Rohinton Fali Nariman supported advocate Vikas Singh's suggestion that like him, more direct appointees should be taken by the apex court. Now, with Justice Nariman’s retirement, SC’s strength will be reduced to 25. There will be nine vacancies. Another judge is set to retire later this month, so there will be 10 places to fill.
