Justice Chandrachud Highlights Delay In Communication Of Bail Orders, Calls It Serious 'Deficiency’
Justice DY Chandrachud, Supreme Court Judge, said that the delay in communicating bail orders to jail officials is a very serious deficiency. He emphasied on the need to address it on war footing and said that it touches the human liberty of every under-trial prisoner. Justice Chandrachud was speaking at an online event organised by the Allahabad High Court. The event was held to inaugurate virtual courts & 'e-Sewa kendras' to facilitate online legal assistance to litigants. Recently, Shah Rukh Khan’s son, Aryan Khan had to spend an extra day inside Mumbai’s Arthur Road jail. The 23-year-old boy had to spend one more day inside the jail despite the Bombay High Court granting him bail in the drugs case. Justice Chandrachud said that 2.95 crore criminal cases are pending in district courts in the country. Over 77.5 per cent of these cases are more than one year old. Watch the video to know more.
