Journalist Aatish Taseer’s Grandmother Speaks After Govt Revokes His Overseas Indian Citizenship

Writer & Journalist Aatish Taseer was informed on the night of Nov 7 that is Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) status was now cancelled. Taseer was asked to return his OCI card to the Consulate General of India in new York, withing 15 days. In an article on Time magazine’s website, Aatish Taseer wrote, “I am Indian. Why is the Government Sending Me Into Exile?” In a video posted by Taseer’s Mother Tavleen, his grandmother is seen speaking of his exile from the country. She says that she has raised him as an Indian, “which he is” and that she would like for him to come home. Home Ministry has claimed that the reason for revoking Taseer’s OCI status was not the critical article he wrote about PM Modi’s politics & policies, but that he concealed his late father was Pakistani.
