ITR Filing Deadline Dec 31, 2020: Here’s An Important Message From The Income Tax Department For Tax Payers

The income tax return (ITR) filing deadline for FY 2019-20 has been further extended to December 31, 2020, for most individual taxpayers, from the earlier deadline of November 30, 2020. This is the second time the tax return filing deadline for FY2019-20 has been extended. With the ITR filing last date approaching closer, taxpayers, who are yet to file returns, should do it as early as possible to avoid any last-minute rush or error. Income Tax Department has confirmed that as many as 4.15 crore taxpayers have already filed their income tax returns for assessment year (AY) 2020-21 (fiscal year 2019-20) till December 26. This includes 2.34 crore taxpayers filing ITR-1, 89.89 lakh filing ITR-4, 49.72 lakh ITR-3 and 30.36 lakh filing ITR-2.
