IPL 2021: Pat Cummins Donates $50,000; 3 Other Aussie Players Withdraw Fearing Lockdown
Australian fast bowler Pat Cummins on April 26 announced that he was donating $50,000 to the 'PM Cares Fund' specifically for the purchase of oxygen supplies for Indian hospitals as the country faces a surge of Covid-19 cases. Cummins plays for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He also urged colleagues in the IPL to make contribution. Meanwhile, Australians Adam Zampa & Kane Richardson have joined countryman AJ Tye in withdrawing from IPL as the Australian government announced a temporary ban on direct passenger flights from India. Prime Minister Scott Morrison said the suspension would remain in place until at least May 15 due to "clearly present" risks of travel from India. On April 25, Tye flew from Mumbai to Doha on his way to Sydney. On April 26 afternoon, it was announced that Zampa and Richardson will return to Australia for "personal reasons", less than 24 hours after Tye's departure. There are now 14 Australian players remaining in the IPL, including Steve Smith, David Warner & Pat Cummins, as well as a handful of coaches like Ricky Ponting & Simon Katich & commentators such as Matthew Hayden, Brett Lee & Michael Slater.
