India's Ambassador In Qatar Meets Taliban's Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanekzai, After US Ends Afghanistan War
On August 31, India for the first time said it had held diplomatic talks with the Taliban. An Indian envoy met a leader of the terrorist group in Doha, Qatar. The meeting was held following a request by the new rulers of the conflict-hit country. As per a press release by the Ministry of External Affairs, ambassador Deepak Mittal, India's envoy to Qatar, met Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanekzai, Head of Taliban's Political Office in that country. The statement mentioned that they met at the Indian Embassy in Doha. The statement said, “Discussions focused on safety, security, and early return of Indian nationals stranded in Afghanistan. The travel of Afghan nationals, especially minorities, who wish to visit India also came up.” Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanekzai trained with the Indian Army between 1979 and 1982.
