On August 1, India took over the rotating Presidency of the United Nations Security Council for the month of August. The chair is passed in a rotating presidency format where permanent and non-permanent members assume the presidency for a month each. For this month, issues such as the Taliban's offensive in Afghanistan, the COVID-19 pandemic and other important items are on the UNSC's agenda.
This is India's tenth tenure at the UNSC presidency. Previously, India was in the chair starting June 1950, followed by September 1967, December 1972, October 1977, February 1985, October 1991, December 1992, August 2011, and last in November 2012.
