India became a free nation on August 15, 1947 after the British government signed and enacted the Indian Independence Act on this day. The signing of this act also partitioned the British-ruled India into India and Pakistan, but Pakistan celebrates its foundation day one day earlier – August 14. Like India, there are other countries such as North Korea, and South Korea, Lichtenstein, Bahrain which also mark their independence day on August 15.
