Increased Traffic Fines ‘Very Harsh’, Won’t Implement In West Bengal: CM Mamata Banerjee
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced that Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act 2019 will not be implemented in state as the fines are too steep. She said, “I can't implement this Motor Vehicle Act right now because our government officials are of the opinion that if we implement it will over-burden people.” Punjab, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan have also reduced the penalty amount. Earlier today, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highway, Nitin Gadkari said that states can reduce penalties under the new Motor Vehicles Act.
