Heavy Rains Lash Kerala: Many Districts Under Orange Alert, Two Children Die As House Collapses
On October 12, heavy rains continued to batter many parts of Kerala. Many people were evacuated from certain areas in Thrissur & Kozhikode and taken to relief and rehabilitation camps. Two children lost their lives in Malappuram after a nearby under construction house collapsed onto their residence, reported PTI. The six month old baby girl and her eight-year-old sister were rushed to the hospital, but they could not be saved, reported PTI. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange and yellow alerts for various districts like Kozhikode, Palakkad, Malappuram, Wayanad, Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Idukki district up to October 15. The weather department had said that a cyclonic circulation was present over east-central Arabian Sea and it was likely to persist during the next three days.
