A 19-year-old Dalit girl, who died after she was gang-raped allegedly by four upper-caste men in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras district, was cremated by policemen on the night of September 29. Allegedly her family and relatives were locked up in their homes. A disturbing sequence of events took place on the night of September 29 as the family argued with the cops, female relatives threw themselves on the hood of the ambulance carrying the body and a mother who weeped helplessly as cops insisted on taking her daughter straight to cremation, without allowing a last look. The woman died in Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital on September 29. But long after her death, her family had to endure a night of unending horror. As protesters outside the Delhi hospital chanted "hang the rapists", the woman's brothers complained that her body had been whisked away by the UP police without their knowledge. Her father and brothers sat on protest but they were taken away by the cops in a black Scorpio with UP plates. The deceased had stated that Sandip, Ramu, Lavkush and Ravi had raped her on September 14 when she had gone to collect fodder for animals and when she resisted their attempts, they tried to strangulate her, leading to the cut in the tongue. Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, amid national said Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had "no moral right" to continue in office. Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Tuesday criticised national media for 'neglecting' the gangrape of a 19-year-old Dalit woman in UP's Hathras. Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, Saina Nehwal, Akshay Kumar, Kangana Ranaut, Swara Bhasker, and many others tweeted demanding justice for the heinous crime.
