On December 8, Chief of Defence Staff Gen Bipin Rawat and his wife died in a chopper crash. IAF’s Mi-17V5 chopper was carrying Gen Bipin Rawat and 13 others when it crashed near Coonoor in Tamil Nadu. In a tweet, IAF confirmed that Gen Bipin Rawat and his wife have died in the crash which claimed 13 lives in all. The only survivor is Group Captain Varun Singh who is undergoing treatment. Soon After the news spread, many from the sports and the entertainment world took to social media to express grief. Indian cricketer Virat Kohli tweeted, “My deepest condolences to the friends & family members.” Sachin Tendulkar said, “It’s a sad day for India and our defence forces.” Actor Salman Khan tweeted, “Very sad to hear of the tragic crash in which we have lost Gen Bipin Rawat, his wife and other personnel from the Armed forces.” Many others also offered their condolences.
