Ganesh Chaturthi: The History & Balgangadhar Tilak’s Contribution Towards Reviving This Tradition
The joyous occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi, is a festival that spans ten-days and culminates on Anant Chaturdashi when the idols of Lord Ganesh are immersed in water. This is one of the major festivals in Hindu religion and is the biggest and most important one celebrated in Maharashtra. Ganesh Chaturthi signifies the birth of Lord Ganesha who is the younger son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati and is celebrated beginning the next day of the Hartalika Teej festival. However, the public celebrations also have a link to India’s freedom movement and the iconic freedom fighter Balgangadhar Tilak.
