Friendship is considered one the most precious relationships that an individual cultivates in his or her life. And to celebrate this unique relationship the Friendship Day is celebrated. While Friendship Day is celebrated in several countries around the world and the UN designated July 30 to mark International Friendship Day, in India the first Sunday of August is dedicated to friends. This highly-awaited occasion will be celebrated on August 1 in 2021. It is a day to celebrate the role friends play in our lives, and how they shape our lives and memories.
This day was first proposed in 1958 in Paraguay. However, most sources suggest the day was first commemorated in 1930 through Hallmark cards, by Joyce Hall. People usually celebrate Friendship Day by tying a friendship band on each other’s wrists and also exchanging fun gifts as well as sweet messages. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, social distancing norms and other precautions have to be taken care of this time. Watch the video to know more.
