Donald Trump Is Ready To Mediate India-China Border Dispute; Situation With India Stable, Says China

US President Donald Trump on May 27 offered to ‘mediate or arbitrate’ what he called a ‘now raging border dispute’ between India & China. Trump’s comment refers to a build-up along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) by Indian and Chinese armies following a recent face-off in Ladakh. China on May 27 said that the situation at the border with India is ‘overall stable and controllable’. The Foreign Ministry Spokesperson said both the countries have proper mechanisms and communication channels to resolve the issues through dialogue and consultation. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian, during a media briefing in Beijing, said that China's position on the border-related issues is clear and consistent. The foreign ministry's remarks came a day after President Xi ordered the military to scale up its battle preparedness, visualising the worst-case scenarios and asked it to resolutely defend the country's sovereignty. PM Narendra Modi held a high-level meeting on May 27 with three service chiefs, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval & the Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat to discuss the stand-off with China.
