Doctors, Policemen Ferrying COVID-19 Suspected Patients Attacked In Moradabad, UP

A team of doctors and health workers were attacked by residents of a locality in Moradabad, a town in western Uttar Pradesh. The incident took place when the medical team went there to take immediate contacts of a COVID-19 patient who died, to a quarantine facility. The police officials escorting the medical staff were also attacked. SC Agarwal, Injured Doctor said, “When we were about to get them seated in the ambulance, people gathered asking what is happening. Then people started attacking us. People started beating me up. An elderly saved me and then police arrived.” Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered the invocation of the stringent National Security Act in such cases. Any loss of property will also be recovered from them. Awanish Awasthi, Additional Chief Secretary (Home), UP, “The chief minister has ordered that under any circumstances, any protest against health workers, police personnel or sanitization workers working amid COVID-19 outbreak, will be tackled with seriousness and appropriate action will be taken.” Visuals from the Nawab Pura colony showed smashed police jeeps and ambulance. The number of cases confirmed cases in Uttar Pradesh has reached 735 with 11 deaths being reported.
