Delta Variant To Become Dominant In Coming Months, Warns WHO; Number Of Covid-19 Cases In The United States Rose 10%
World Health Organization (WHO) has said the Delta variant of Covid-19 is now present in nearly 100 countries as per conservative estimates. WHO has warned that in the coming months the highly transmissible strain will become the dominant variant of the coronavirus globally. Given the increase in transmissibility, the WHO warned that the Delta variant is “expected to rapidly outcompete other variants and become the dominant variant over the coming months.” Last week, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the Delta variant is the “most transmissible” of the variants identified so far and is spreading rapidly among unvaccinated populations. Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 cases in the United States rose 10 per cent this week as the highly contagious delta variant gained further ground, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said on July 1. The Delta variant is now responsible for about one in every four coronavirus infections in the U.S., according to CDC estimates. Watch the video to know more.
